Our center, which was founded in 1950 under the leadership of Halide Edip Adıvar under the name of Turkish PEN Club, was closed after the military coup of September 12, 1980, and was revived in 1989 under the leadership of Yaşar Kemal. The Ordinary General Assembly of the PEN Writers Association meets every three years on the third Saturday of January in Istanbul.
