Epsilon was first founded in 1988 as a mail and special order bookselling company by Omer Yenici, an engineer by education, but a young and skilled salesman passionate about books who chose a career in bookselling and publishing. In 1993 Epsilon published its first title, Kipper children s books by Mick Inkpen. The unavailability of quality translated fiction and children s books was the main motivation in starting publishing, and sales and marketing experience gained from years of bookselling helped Epsilon tremendously in the early years. Epsilon was very well received by the Turkish readers and quickly established itself as one of the most dynamic and original publishing houses in a market that was barely getting out of its infancy stage. On the other hand, Omer Yenici established a book distribution partnership, Yeni Cizgi, the same year. Yeni Cizgi went on to become by far the largest book distribution company in Turkey in just five years, revolutionizing the industry via exclusive distribution contracts, extensive investment in technology and introduction of malls, grocery chains and department stores as sales points to the publishing industry for the first time. In 1999, Yeni Sayfa, one of the first online book retailers in Turkey, was established. Over the years Epsilon produced many bestsellers from both local and translated authors, including Gulse Birsel, Ayse Arman, İclal Aydın (prominent journalists and media personalities), İpek Ongun (the bestselling young adult author in Turkey), Orhan Kemal (late novelist who was brought back to public attention via a successful media campaign; as well as Heidi Murkoff (What to Expect series), Frank McCourt, Richard Russo, Dale Carnegie, Spencer Johnson, Peter F. Drucker, Richard Bach, Jackie Collins, Janet Evanovich, Tom Clancy, Nicholas Evans, Charles Frazier, Robin Cook, Nicholas Sparks and many others. In the recent years Epsilon focused mostly on translated fiction; especially childrens books, romance, thrillers and fantasy fiction. Some of the authors published in Turkish by Epsilon are Jeff Kinney (Wimpy Kid series), Michael Buckley (NERDS series), Gitty Daneshvari, Tim Collins, Stephenie Meyer, Lauren Kate, Julie Garwood, Julia Quinn, Judith McNaught, Nora Roberts, Lisa Kleypas, Audrey Niffenegger, Debbie Macomber, Jeffery Deaver, Jussi Adler-Olsen, Peter V. Brett and George R. R. Martin. As of 2012 Epsilon has over 1300 titles in print and publishes over 130 new titles per year. Epsilon is one of the largest and best known Turkish publishers and enjoys great public recognition and a loyal following.
