DOZ Publications was founded in the autumn of 1989 in Istanbul by Ahmet Zeki Okçuoğlu and several Kurdish intellectuals. Until that time, Kurdish publishing houses, magazines, and newspapers were under the control of various groups and organizations. One of the main goals behind the establishment of DOZ Publications was to liberate Kurdish publishing from the influence and control of narrow group-based and ideological structures. As is well known, political organizations often used journalism and publishing to promote their own ideological and political agendas; however, many valuable and high-quality works were left unpublished because such organizations did not prioritize them. DOZ Publications distinguished itself as the first Kurdish publishing house to maintain a truly independent stance, without falling under the shadow of any group or organization.
