The book goes back to town: International Istanbul Book Fair opens its doors for the 39th time

The longing for the International Istanbul Book Fair, one of the most important cultural events of the city, where book lovers can find all the publishing houses together, buy discounted books and have the opportunity to meet their favorite authors, ends in December. The fair, organized by Tüyap tum Fuarcılık Yapım A.Ş. in cooperation with the Turkish Publishers Association, will be held at Tüyap Fair and Congress Center between 3-11 December.
 
The longing of book lovers has come to an end
Speaking at the press conference of the fair held today, Tüyap Fuarlar Yapım A.Ş. General Manager İlhan Ersözlü said, "I would like to state that we are very excited to open the doors of the International Istanbul Book Fair on December 3. We are continuing from where we left off in 2019, we are preparing with all our strength to open our fair of the same size. Nearly 1000 publishing houses, brands, public institutions and non-governmental organizations will take part in our fair, which will be held with the theme of 'The Magical World of the Book', and we expect the intense interest of more than 750 thousand visitors. In addition to our writer of honour Nazlı Eray, popular writers and illustrators will meet with our visitors with various events. We are very happy to have our fair, which attracts such attention. In this context, I would like to thank our collaborator Turkish Publishers Association and all our stakeholders, and wish our fair to be successful."
 
There will be more than 350 thousand types of books
Kenan Kocatürk, President of the Turkish Publishers Association, who made the presentation at the press conference, shared the following: "The fact that the Book Fair is returning to the city after a two-year break is a source of gratitude to all components of our independent publishing industry, which has never given up its efforts to continue its activities despite the severe economic conditions. The Istanbul Book Fair is one of the most important areas where our cultural diversity is exhibited and our books meet with the reader, with at least 200 thousand of our more than 350 thousand published and existing book types. However, we invite our readers, who have shown great solidarity in difficult times, to the fair to protect our cultural diversity and to show solidarity with publishers."
 
Journey to the magical world of the book
The slogan of this year's fair, which last took place in 2019, was determined as "The book returns to the city", evoking this great reunion after a two-year break. The fair, which will be held with the theme of "The Magical World of the Book", will focus on fantasy literature, science fiction and magical realism. This year's honorary author of the fair will be Nazlı Eray, one of the most important and prolific writers of Turkish literature. Within the scope of the fair; Interviews, panels and events will be held with the participation of Eray, and a memoir focusing on the life and works of the author will also meet with the readers.
 
Bilateral business meetings will be held
At the Istanbul Book Fair, which creates international meeting opportunities in our literary world, bilateral business meetings will be held between domestic and foreign publishing houses within the scope of the "Ministry of Culture and Tourism Project to Support the Outward Expansion of Turkish Culture, Art and Literature Works" carried out by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye and whose short name is "TEDA". In addition, officials from the focus market countries, including Greece, Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia and Kosovo, will hold one-on-one meetings with representatives of participating publishing houses and exchange copyrights. In addition , publishers from Germany, Iran, UAE and Romania will also take their place in the international hall of the fair.
 
Hundreds of cultural events, thousands of signing days
During the nine-day International Istanbul Book Fair, hundreds of cultural events consisting of panels, interviews, poetry recitals and children's workshops and thousands of signing days will be held.
The fair will host nearly 300 cultural events consisting of panels, interviews, workshops and children's activities; Nearly 2000 authors will have the opportunity to meet with their readers during the events and signing days to be held for nine days.
Inaccordance with the theme of the fair,  readers will have a pleasant time with interesting activities to be organized under the topicsofWriting Science Fiction in Türkiye, From the Underground to the Surreal Istanbul: Strange Fictions, Fantastic Waters, From Mythology to Literature, From Literature to Mythology.
 
Intense visitor interest is expected
The fair, where entrance is free of charge for students, teachers, children, retirees and disabled people, can be visited between 10.00-19.00 on weekdays and 10.00-20.00 on weekends.
